engineer to be
part
of the armies groups. His friend was a sharp shooter who got tones of medals,
he was
unbelievable.
My pap loves to shoot guns and RIFLES, everyone gets those mixed up, I guess
they
are not true shooters. My pap also told me if you don't call your rifle a rifle
you will get in

Hi Cherie
I met you the other day at Corinne Jewelers! This site is wonderful
and very touching. I`m very patriotic, having served 1996-2003 in the
US Army! I'm enjoying this site and will forward it on to all of my
Vet friends. We really do appreciate the recognition! It's more
important than many realize. A simple Thank you means so much! Thank you!!!

I just spent some time going over your site and to say the least it is
absolutely remarkable. Thank you so very much for doing this for us.
How wonderful. My wife is also a Vietnam era veteran. she served five and a half years
in the U.S. Army. Her name is Margie. Thanks again and may God bless our homeland.
I thank you for your comments and I thank you for thinking of us.
I will gladly pass your URL along and asked that it be linked
on our different web sites. Again thanks for doing this and,
yes, it brought tears to my eyes as I read it. I was mocked when I
returned from Vietnam. I don't expect nor ask that anyone thank me
and when they do I really have to hold back the tears.
I did my service because I love God and I love my Country. Let me know if
there is anyway that my wife or I can help you. We must remember that
we are passing the responsibility for protecting our Country to those youngsters.
My chest swells with pride every time I return to Fort Bragg, NC and
see our young Special Forces Troopers. I stop to think if I did anything
to help in their training and protection in battle. I can only hope and
pray that I did. God bless you and God bless our beautiful America.

Veteran experience: I served in the US Army from 1996-2003. I really appreciate the recognition!! Thank you means so much to a vet! It`s so important for everyone to realize the importance of our men and women in uniform. I did funeral detail for many months and folded the American Flag proudly for many families who lost their loved ones and I fought back the tears each time I handed the flag to the family and said "On behalf of the President of the United States and a grateful nation, I present this flag to you, as a token of appreciation for your loved ones years of faithful and honorable service to the United States Army. May God Bless" Each time that I said this to another sad, yet proud face, I became overwhelmed with personal pride and emotions. I wish everyone could just once feel the same! Thank you to all who have served and currently serve. May you come home safely, SOON! My prayers are with you everyday and night. Everyone should acknowledge that Freedom is not free, and service members are ordinary people doing extraordinary things! It takes a lot of courage and we are free today because of them! Whether you support the war or not, support your military! They are only human and have all the same fears and emotions that the rest of us have. May God be with all the children without their parents and all the parents without their children and everyone in between. Support our Troops! God Bless.
I want to Thank you for this site. As the son and
brother of veterans, and a veteran myself, I would like to say well done!
I have been to many VA homes and my Dad was in the DAV. I have seen the
homeless veteran on the street, those alone, with no family in the VA
hospitals. This effort will bring much needed recognition for our brave
veterans.
Thank you, and Carry on!

Hi I`m a gulf vet, I wrote this song "A letter
home" on www.myspace.com/mobiledrummer.
It is the most pro American song you will hear from the heart of a soldier away from home. Please take
30 seconds of your time to listen and consider getting this message
heard. America sometimes forgets who are boys are.
This is a wonderful conduit of exposure to all ages.
I spent my time with the 101st. Abn. Div. 1968-1969 as a combat front
line medic in Vietnam. For those of us who made it back alive, the
return home was sad and painful. It is enlightening to see the nice
comments, especially by the kids.gets who are boys are.

experience I had with a veteran was my father. He served in WWII and the Korean
War. He was wonderful to me. He never spoke about his time in the
service but I know he was very proud he had and I was very proud of him for
doing so.
I since then have been married to a Vietnam veteran for many years and
have helped him thru some rough times in his life, just by being there
and to listen with my heart and with my ears if he wanted to talk. I
love all veterans for what they have given for our country and for us.

My name is Joseph B and I was an FMF Corpsman with the 5th Marines
in Korea in 1951. For about a year I've been associated with the
Southern Tier Branch of Korean veterans. We and our spouses gather monthly
for breakfast and on several occasions some of our group have spoken to
school children in our area. We talk what it was like in those days,
why we were in the military, some of the training we went through and I
talk about the fact that Navy Corpsmen serve with the Marines. We stay
away from the blood and guts of war but do put in a small piece of our
experiences to keep the interest of our audiences. I truly enjoy the
expressions on the faces of these young people and they all are extremely
appreciative of our efforts. Monday May 15th we will be talking to the
9th, 10th and 11th grades of Vestal, NY high school. Our group has
spoken to theses folks previously and the seniors of this year were the 9th
graders of that session. Our talks are strictly off the cuff as!
none of us has a prepared speech so each session is an experience for
us. Your web site came to me today and as yet I haven`t had time to do
it justice. I certainly will become familiar with it as time permits.
God bless you and keep us Vets in the eyes and hearts of our young ones.

I served in Viet Nam for 2 years and was proud to serve. Although when I returned

which really hurt me more than bullets. But I have forgiven all those people and
have led my life in a normal matter by thanking any and all Veterans and welcoming
them home.

When he talked of war and his experiences you could see the hurt and pride in his eyes, unfortunately we lost him about 14 months ago and we did a bake sale in his honor and raised $576 to the Veterans home in Wisconsin. I will never forget his voice on the loud speaker asking for silence in honor of his fallen friends. He was a great man.
PS He also would play Santa at Christmas for all who had little kids at their homes for free!!!!!!!!!!!
Cherie,
I want to thank you for your interest in our Veterans and the contribution they have made to our nation. It is important that our young people are familiar with what has gone before and what is happening now to continue in the strengthening of our American ideals. Teachers like you are in the position to make our future leaders appreciate the cost in keeping us free. Our organization, the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association respect what you are doing. We publish a quarterly newsletter, "The Gram", and I am passing your letter on to our editor asking that your web site and letter find a place in a future issue. Thank you very much and a thank you to your children as well.

I appreciate your website and would like to say thank you for what you are doing. I retired from the US Army on 30 September 2004 after 41 years of total service. Because of meeting a young veteran in the 1950s, I became interested in the Military at a early age. That interest also helped me to understand America and what it means to be an American. I sincerely hope your web page will bring to our young people the necessity to understand that freedom, for years, has cost so much to be given to so many. I thank you.

On a class trip to D.C. this year, my class was impressed by the exhibit about Women in the Military at Arlington National Cemetery, where there was also an exhibit about the men & women that have lost their lives in Iraq. Cherie,
I have checked out your website and think it is a very good resource for students and teachers. I applaud you for the work you have done. FYI, I am including the following article in the Missouri NEA Leaders Update that will be distributed to our local leaders across the state.
Kids Thank a Vet
A member from New Jersey has been researching and putting together information about the veterans of
the United States for a national website called "Kids Thank a Veteran". The primary purpose
of this website is to have children from every state and every socio-economic and ethnic background simply
say "Thank you for serving" when they see a Veteran.
Students will be able to register on the site, www.kidsthankavet.com, with their first name and state. Hopefully this simple gesture will cause students to be more aware of our Veterans and continue this practice throughout their lives.
The secondary purpose of this website will be for teacher and student education. This is one way to
help students understand the sacrifice veterans have made for our country. Please provide this information
to the teachers in your district.

with a group of other vets. The mission this time was one of healing. Shortly after he
returned we felt very much that we should start a veteran's ministry through our local church.
Although we are a small ministry, we have done some projects that
were really heartfelt. One of them was called "Mission Wrap Them In Love".
We collected blankets - many of them new- and gave them out to the homeless vets.
We also have done Sock Runs, where we have out many pairs of socks to the
homeless vets. We've fed them and taken some to rehab. We have given
reconditioned computers to disabled vets. We also work with
another ministry who collects dog tags (they are sold in Vietnam as souvenirs!)
We have presented dog tags to mothers of sons killed in Vietnam,
to veterans who are living and lost their tags during the war.
It is the most humbling experience! And what an honor!
And now we are purshing the send a Christmas card
to a wounded American solider at Walter Reed Army Hospital.
Thank you for all YOU do for our veterans!! May God bless you and all the ones
involved!

Veteran experience: My grandfather was a World War II veteran.
He served in the European theater and was at Normandy on D-Day.
He never talked much about his service. He was a quiet and humble man.
I learned more about his service AFTER he passed away and then
began to research his service and discharge. I found he was
highly decorated and had received 2 silver stars for bravery as
well as a purple heart and 4 bronze stars. These things he never
shared with us. As, he felt that war was a necessary evil which
went along with maintaining freedom. I feel very honored and
proud to have a grandfather who bravely fought for our country.

Comments/question: Dear Ms. Reid-I heard about your website and went on
it today to learn more. It inspired me to write to the NJ Viet Nam
Veterans Memorial director and suggest a blood drive in honor of Veterans.
(My dad is a WWII Vet). I'll let you know if they agree.
If so, I hope you will post blood drive information on your site.
Thanks for all you do to teach the importance of Veterans to our children.

Veteran experience:I was a military wife for 4 years.
My husband left for VietNam when I was 8 weeks pregnant with
our first child, he came home when the baby was 8 months old.
Then he continued to fly in & out of VietNam for 2 more years
from Travis AFB in Calif. We sacrificed so much so he could
serve. Nobody, and I mean nobody has ever thanked either one of
us, we never heard a kind word while he was over there, offering
support or encouragement, except from other military people
and one close friend, most of our friends thought he was nuts for
volunteering! He flew in the Air Force. That was 1966-1970 and we
just celebrated our 40th anniversary and we still think he did the right thing!

Pearl Harbor, his working on the lighter than air ships in Lakehurst,
serving the in Pacific and also in northern Africa. I`m going to show
him a copy of this web site and tell him it's been done by a colleague
of mine in Howell Twp. Schools. i know it will make this Veterans`Day
a bit more special knowing the youngsters are learning about veterans.

I am a 52 year old "kid" from Marlboro. This past memorial
weekend, my wife and I donated a few dollars and received our yearly
"poppies" from 2 WWII vets in front of the new Sam`s store
Freehold...and I thanked them. It`s the least I could do.
Amazing how most people just walked right by them as if they
weren`t even there. Thank u for your effort!
Cherie
Read the amazing article in this mornings a.p.p. Hats off to you.
I am 52, my wife and I live in Marlboro with 2 kids. My dad didn`t
serve in WWII, my father in law did (now deceased). Most of my parents
friends did serve. Integrating your website into the classroom for
younger kids is great, especially WWII, which really shaped this country.
I am sure u have read Brokaw`s Greatest Generation. If it weren`t
for this book i probably wouldn`t be sending this e mail. I told my
wife and several friends that this book should be mandatory
reading for every high school aged kid in the U S. I have to get my 2
kids to read it. Actually everyone in this country should read it and
it should be required reading for anyone wishing to become a citizen.
Perhaps more people would then appreciate what it took to build this
nation. Thx again for your hard work.
Jay
Dear Ms. Reid,
I read your story in the Press about your way of honoring your father.
I think it`'s a wonderful idea. I am writing to you to let you know
that you can register your father`s name in the Archives at the new WWII
memorial in Washington, D.C.
The website is www.wwiimemorial.com.
You can register and then list his name and service details. After a few days,
it will be acknowledged and you can print out a copy of the listing.
There is no charge for this. If you want a special certificate,
it is $5.00, or if you want to add his picture, it is $10.00.
This can all be done online. I have been registering veterans since
the memorial opened, but unfortunately I get most of my listings from
the obituaries, and often there is not much information to add.
If you have any questions, feel free to e-mail me, or call me.
Best wishes and success in your endeavor. I was 6 when WWII began
and 10 when it ended, so I have vivid memories of the sacrifices our
veterans made. This is my small way of honoring them.
